It is no secret that everyone wants to get ahead in their business. You spend multiple hours a month researching and keeping yourself educated on the many different things you need to do to stay ahead. In your effort to keep your head above water, you embrace the changes that are happening daily and you are the first one in line when new technology becomes available, but are you neglecting the simple things that helped you grow your business in the first place? With the busy spring market in full swing, we think that now is the perfect time to plant KISS on you, and by that we mean the KISS Principle. It was first noted by the US Navy in 1960 and is the idea that most systems work best when they are kept simple. So, when you are embracing the new tools and technology out there, are you remembering to KISS?

1.)    Stay Connected

Do you stay in touch with your past clients? Past clients are the foundation of any good real estate business, and keeping in touch is a great way to ensure that next time they need an agent, you will be the first one they contact. This idea is easy to merge with the newer way of doing things. Become Facebook friends and interact with them by liking, sharing, or commenting on their posts. Is it their birthday? Pick up the phone and call them to send your well wishes, after all, it is usually the small things that go a long way in showing someone you care.

2.)    Be Yourself

Stop looking at what everyone else is doing and trying to copy it. What is working for them may not work for you, and you more than likely will not feel comfortable doing it. Step back and think about what you enjoy doing, and what has gotten you the best results in the past. Once you have a better understanding, you can focus more time and energy on doing that and chances are, you will enjoy doing it!

3.)    Learn Basic Skills

Instead of trying to be the best at something you haven’t started yet, why not take the time to learn how to do it correctly from the beginning. Social media has become a huge part of this industry, but it is worthless if you can’t get your message across effectively. Sign up for a basic copywriting class so you can learn the best ways to reach your audience. While you’re at it, you may as well learn some basic SEO skills. Search Engine Optimization has become more and more important and by learning a few simple tips you will be way ahead of those who don’t understand how it works.

While it is always good to take a chance and try new things, sometimes you need to take a second to step back and get back to the basics. If you have any tips you think are worth sharing, make sure you share them with us on Twitter at @REMAXoa or on Facebook.
